Here’s to an excellent 2026 for all entrepreneurs in this sector!
We must believe! This new year, which is just beginning, must bring the best. The entire beauty industry supply chain needs it. According to the old saying, “where there’s a will, there’s a way,” but you still have to want it! The “authorities” in the broadest sense of the term need to understand that it takes time. It takes time to build a business. It takes time to conquer markets and keep them. It takes very little time to destroy all that. The automotive industry has gained time and won its case on the all-electric front. European glassmakers are mobilizing to have several points of the PPWR re-examined.
The entire industry, from packaging materials and their processing, from glass to plastic, paper, cardboard, and aluminum, has nothing to be ashamed of, far from it, given the progress made since that famous day on August 5, 1992, when S.A. Eco-Emballages was established under the impetus of Antoine Riboud, then president of BSN (later the Danone group), Jean-Louis Beffa, president of the Saint Gobain Group, and Brice Lalonde, the environment minister at the time.
It was Jacques Bouvet who, within the framework of the new European regulations on the treatment of household waste and their implementation in French legislation (Lalonde decrees of April 1, 1992), led a preliminary mission and then founded Eco-Emballage with consumer goods manufacturers, the first French organization to implement extended corporate responsibility in environmental matters. He chaired this organization for three years, which contractually supports the collection, treatment, and recycling of packaging. Eric Guillon, head of the New Packaging Department at BSN and then Director General of the Environment, was the first Director General and became President of Eco-Emballages in 2003 and 2004.
And guess what? I was there in 1992! At the time, I produced the very first Eco-Emballages newsletters, taking note of the messages to be conveyed that Jacques Bouvet often dictated to me in the car between appointments. It was an extraordinary adventure with exceptional entrepreneurs and captains of industry.
Fortunately, the momentum in this sector is still going strong!
Happy New Year!
